Publishing Fulfilment Case Study: Parcelhub is Good News for Publishers
When the circulation of Christian newspaper Good News began to rise, the publishers, Good News Fellowship, turned to their printer for help in managing the distribution. However, the solution provided was never entirely satisfactory and they soon began to look elsewhere for support.
Good News Fellowship sends more than 75,000 newspapers to almost 230 churches and missions across the UK and into Europe every month. Each Good News can be personalised with the contact details of the church or mission, so it is vital that the right ones reach the right location in the correct number.
After trying a number of options it became clear that a specialist distribution partner was needed, and they contacted Parcelhub, the UK’s leading publishing fulfilment provider, as chairman John Mutton explains.
“We handled the distribution in-house initially, but it quickly became too complicated and time consuming and was taking us away from the business of producing Good News. We knew we needed to find an alternative and our printer managed it for a while. It never worked particularly well though; the newspapers need to be sent out promptly each month and there were too many delays and inaccuracies.
“We contacted Parcelhub following a recommendation and haven’t looked back. Right from the outset they added value, listening to our needs and then suggesting improvements to our processes such as packing newspapers into bundles to streamline the distribution.
“Since then, having a specialist publishing fulfilment partner on board has made a significant difference. Not only is it cheaper but everything happens so much more quickly. The Parcelhub team are incredibly responsive and we have confidence that when we ask them to do something it will be done. That is a big thing for us, we’re a small team and we don’t have time to chase things up.”

The newspapers are delivered directly from the printers each month, whereupon they are sorted and despatched within 48 hours. A number of copies of every issue are stored at the Parcelhub warehouse in case of ad hoc orders, which are sent out on demand, usually within a day.
