Due to the recent opening of Hermes’ Midlands Super Hub, combined with Parcelhub’s annual parcel volumes growing at more than 40%, Parcelhub has introduced the Hermes Next Day service to complement existing Next Day offerings from Yodel, UK Mail, DX and more.
Widely regarded as “the new norm” in eCommerce, a recent report from IMRG (the industry body for online retailers) found that Next Day delivery was selected by 31% of customers in 2016, up from 26.8% in 2015.
IMRG head of e-logistics Andrew Starkey said retailers “marketed the Next Day delivery option heavily, which has had an influence on the increase in uptake.”
“It’s not hard to see why delivery times are speeding up, as many retailers feature their next-day offer prominently at the top of their homepage in order to attract and keep customers. With delivery service so important to shoppers, retailers must look at all aspects to keep ahead of their competition and customers’ expectations.”
Not only is Next Day delivery considered a key component of driving eCommerce sales, a recent study found that speedy delivery helps increase customer loyalty; an article by Business Insider argues “the first step to fostering customer loyalty with shipping is fast delivery speed and fast shipping after order placement”.
Tom Burns, Business Development Manager, Hermes commented:
“Year on year Hermes has seen the demand for Next Day delivery increasing. Next Day delivery accounts for around 18% of our total volume; with the opening of our Midlands Super Hub in September we have increased our network capacity by 45% and are on course to have delivered over 50 million Next Day parcels between March 2017 and February 2018. This investment in our network will prove vital as the number of Next Day deliveries will only grow bigger as the consumer demand for Next Day delivery becomes greater.”
“Hermes carry Next Day traffic for massive eCommerce retailers such as Boohoo, PrettyLittleThing and Missguided and we boast a consistently high service as Hermes continue to target our ambition to be the carrier of choice for every end consumer in the UK.”
